Florence Logan
HEAVY
with 21Common and Holytown Primary school
In 2025, Florence worked with 21Common on their Disruptive Pedagogy project, led by the young people who become ‘artists- in-residence’ in their primary school. Alongside co-lead artist Althea Young, every day for five weeks, she worked with a class of P5/P6, and their teacher, in Holytown Primary (North Lanarkshire) to make a dance performance exploring what it means to be strong, to carry and be carried, and what happens when it all get too heavy.
"Over the last 5 weeks the Holytown P5/6 class have been working with 21Common on their heavy lifting, eating their protein and working on their gains. They are now ready to show you just how strong they really are. Through this choreographic exploration into the act of carrying, we ask: Who do we carry? Who carries us? What makes us strong? And what do we do when it's too heavy?"
ABOUT 21COMMON
21Common is an award-winning interdisciplinary Performance Collective based in Glasgow. We create Performance Art, Experimental Theatre and Social Practice which challenges the accepted and expected. We make work locally and tour internationally. They e aim to make work that is political, vulnerable, visceral and at times controversial. At the heart of all of the work they do is a desire to create authentic dialogue through process and product.

Disruptive Pedagogy is 21Common's schools programme with a difference, as it is led by children, who become 'artists- in-residence' over 5 weeks in their primary school. This framework supports children to conceive and undertake a series of creative challenges, instigating a school-wide art 'takeover', setting a collaborative cross-curriculum programme that enhances the learning of each individual.

Supported by The Paul Hamlyn Foundations' Arts based learning fund, 21Common worked with schools across Glasgow in 25/26 to develop learning experiences with classes and teachers that explore rich thematic enquiries, collaborative approaches to curriculum delivery and an introduction to performance creation using multi-disciplines including dance and theatre practices.
